Science

Science is hands-down everyone's favorite subject (including mine).  I was very wary of it at the start of the year, since it is the one subject that I am really "winging." We aren't following any set curriculum or even strongly following a "spine" (aka a book giving us a sense of organization and flow), which means I need to choose and pull together everything on my own.

After some serious discussion, Mr. Crazy and I decided that we wanted to work on physics this first year because . . . well, basically because physics is super fun. :)  We already had ScienceWiz's Physics kit, so that became the basis for our first unit of study and kept us on track for the beginning of the year.

We also have a small collection of experiment books using household materials that has been put to good use, and along the way we picked up the Usborne Science Encyclopedia to help explain terms and connect the ideas and units together.  This will probably become our spine more and more as we go along and help us focus in on the topics for each unit.

As I finish the posts about this unit, I will link them from here.  Here are the topics we addressed separated by week:

Forces & Motion (ScienceWiz Physics kit)
Simple Machines (How Do You Lift a Lion?, Thames & Kosmos Simple Machines kit)
Energy (Energy Makes Things Happen, ScienceWiz Energy kit)
Solar

Heat

Light
